Following . . . March 15, 2014

Following what? Following whom? Of course, I’m speaking of Jesus, Son of God and our Lord and Savior. As Christians, we have been singing this song for years. Yet, are our hearts committed to truly doing this?

  1. I have decided to follow Jesus;
    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    I have decided to follow Jesus;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  2. Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
    Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
    Though I may wonder, I still will follow;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  3. The world behind me, the cross before me;
    The world behind me, the cross before me;
    The world behind me, the cross before me;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  4. Though none go with me, still I will follow;
    Though none go with me, still I will follow;
    Though none go with me, still I will follow;
    No turning back, no turning back.
  5. Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    Will you decide now to follow Jesus?
    No turning back, no turning back.

A few weeks back, one Sunday morning before church as I was going through the exercises prescribed by a chiropractor to help relieve the leg pains I’ve been suffering for more than a year, I turned on the TV and came upon Andy Stanley, son of Dr. Charles Stanley … and I’ve become hooked!

Recently he began a new series which carries this invitation: Regardless of what you believe,
Regardless of how you behave, Jesus invites you to … Follow.”
And, he leads off the series with this question: “What if doing what Jesus says isn’t what Jesus said to do at all?”

As you may imagine, Andy’s teaching style is very down-to-earth … as his ministry was created with the vision of “creating churches that un-churched people love to attend.” If you are not a serious Bible student, or if you’ve ever had any difficulty understanding something you’ve read in the Scriptures . . . I believe you may well find Andy’s messages very enlightening.

If his weekly broadcast is not available to you or you’d like to listen to past messages, you’ll find them available on his website:  www.yourmove.is

As Andy reminded us all, “being a sinner does not disqualify you from being a devoted follower!”

Finally, as Jesus is quoted as stating in Luke 9:23: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
