Show Archive for The Gospel Greats with Paul Heil

This Week’s Featured Artists: Posted September 13, 2012

This September 15th weekend edition will be one of Paul’s occasional All Listener Favorites Editions, with every song (other than Featured Artist selections) introduced by listeners who recently phoned in when the Listener Favorite lines were open. You’ll find out why some of today’s top songs (and some old favorites, too) have such special meanings for listeners — and how those songs have touched their lives. Included on the second hour will be a special mini-countdown of the four most-requested songs during the recent Call-In.

And … his Featured Artist on this program is singer/songwriter Mark Bishop with some brand new songs from his “I Can Rejoice” CD. Listen as Mark tells you about songs of rejoicing, a song about renewing our joy, a song about “artifacts of faith” in heaven, and even a song about why Christians who have already gone on are still qualifying for additional rewards for spreading the Gospel. Mark is always interesting — and this visit is no exception!

NOTE: This week only … due to the live broadcast from the NQC, the Saturday broadcast will begin two hours earlier than usual … at 4 PM ET, 1 PM PT.

Inspirations - Savior's Hands CDCelebrating the start of the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY, all of the songs on the edition for the weekend of September 8th are sung by male quartets. Please join Paul as he celebrates quartets — where Southern Gospel music got its start.

And … Paul’s Featured Artists on this program will be the legendary Inspirations from Bryson City, North Carolina — one of America’s leading Gospel quartets since at least the 1970s. Songs will be from their current CD entitled It’s In The Savior’s Hands. You’ll find out how this CD is a bit different from most previous Inspirations recordings, and why they re-recorded several songs the Inspirations have previously recorded over the years.

Songfellows, BiblePlus, his Artist Spotlight guests will be the Songfellows, another legendary quartet founded back in 1954 in California and now based in Nashville. They’re all long-time singers and names you know: Bob Jones, Jr., Ed Hill, Rick Strickland and Brad Smith. Listen as they bring back some classic Southern Gospel quartet songs — plus a new one.

Finally … others you’ll hear from include Ray Reese (Kingsmen), Tim Duncan (Canton Junction), and Stuart Carey (Down East Boys).

Canton JunctionPaul’s Featured Artists for the weekend of 9/1 broadcast … Canton Junction, the exciting new quartet that’s an outgrowth of the music ministry at Pastor John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. But, for a church quartet, it’s unusual in that you probably already know the names of the group’s members — Matt Hagee, Aaron Crabb, Michael Sykes and Tim Duncan. With that kind of lineup you know it has to be good. We’ll talk with all four members and hear five songs from their debut CD, including one that Aaron wrote.

Other guests on the program include Scott Fowler (Legacy Five); Larry Ford; Phil Collingsworth (Collingsworth Family); and Ben Harris (Southern Sound).

Finally … on the headline update . . . the bass singer shuffle continues.
