On the weekend of October 13th … Paul’s Featured Artists are Brian Free & Assurance, with songs from their new CD called “Nothing But Love.” The guys will talk about why the songs they chose seem especially significant in these times. Included will be their current very popular song, I Want To Be That Man. Brian Free and Bill Shivers will tell you why that song is extra special to them. You’ll also hear a powerful song called Calvary’s Cry”that’s sure to become a classic for this quartet.
And … October is Pastor Appreciation Month and the second Sunday in the month — October 13th — is often set aside in churches as Pastor Appreciation Sunday. In conjunction with that, several of the songs on this program (and related artist thoughts) are about pastors. You’ll especially want to hear Dr. Jerry Goff‘s story-in-song about The Pastor.
And you’ll hear three songs that all exhort preachers to preach the Gospel of Christ in no uncertain terms. If you’re a pastor, these songs will encourage you. If you’re not a pastor, these songs will give you a new appreciation for the call God’s placed on your pastor’s life.
Finally … Paul visits with Matthew Holt, the new pianist for the Gaither Homecoming concerts. He’ll tell you about the lengthy auditioning process he went through to get the job. And he’ll share the amazing story of how a predecessor in that same position provided the encouragement he needed, even as a child, to get involved in Southern Gospel music in the first place.

Paul’s Featured Artists on the weekend of October 6th are the very popular Mark Trammell Quartet, with songs from a brand new CD called Lifetime. Mark will explain how he chose songs that are representative of his nearly four decades of singing — songs that are probably favorites of yours, too. You’ll also hear the one brand new song they included, Way Past Ready, and why it’s so timely. We’ll also talk with group members Nick Trammell, Pat Barker and Eric Phillips. And their recent pianist, Dustin Sweatman, will explain why he’s taking a college teaching position.
On this weekend of September 29th, it’s Paul’s monthly countdown of the 20 most popular Southern Gospel songs, according to the top-tunes chart in the October issue of Singing News magazine. The official countdown edition is heard on the last program each month, previewing the chart appearing in the magazine dated for the following month.
And … Paul’s Featured Artists on this program are the Whisnants. He’ll visit with Jeff, Susan and Aaron and hear three songs from their new “Hymns & Harmony” CD, a collection of old favorites redone in the Whisnants style (produced by Gerald Wolfe). You’ll also hear the Whisnants’ current top-20 chart song and find out why it’s been so special for them (in addition to being #1 for September, of course).
On the broadcast for the weekend of September 22nd … one of today’s most popular Southern Gospel trios will be Paul’s Featured Artists! The Booth Brothers … Ronnie Booth, Michael Booth and Jim Brady will tell you why they’re so excited about their new CD called A Tribute To The Songs of Bill & Gloria Gaither. You’ll hear their solid new versions of some Gaither classics, such as Because He Lives. You’ll find out why they included two new Gaither songs in addition to the classics. And you’ll hear what the Booth Brothers sound like as a quartet, with a special guest bass singer on one of the songs. (Guess who!)
This September 15th weekend edition will be one of Paul’s occasional All Listener Favorites Editions, with every song (other than Featured Artist selections) introduced by listeners who recently phoned in when the Listener Favorite lines were open. You’ll find out why some of today’s top songs (and some old favorites, too) have such special meanings for listeners — and how those songs have touched their lives. Included on the second hour will be a special mini-countdown of the four most-requested songs during the recent Call-In.
